Turkey Onesie

 Gobble Gobble!

Did you have any doubt that Adelyn would have festive attire for this Thanksgiving??

This little project cost me $1.50 to make.

I went to Children's Orchard to get a brown onesie. For those of you who don't know, Children's Orchard is an awesome second hand clothing store for babies and kids. I got this onesie on clearance! I found it in the boy's section. (shhh... don't tell Adelyn!)

I just sewed the turkey on top of the existing design- you wouldn't even know it was there!

I used some of the extra fabric to make a matching headband. I used the same technique for the flowers that I used on my lilly pad pillow a while back.

I think her ensemble will be a crowd pleaser, what do you think?

Make Your Own Baby Wipes

Due to some stubborn diaper rash on Adelyn's bum, I started asking questions about things that could possibly help it go away a little faster. I got a few good suggestions from my expert mommy friends. One told me that her doctor told her to stop using wipes and switch to a wash cloth for a while. Apparently the chemicals in wet wipes can sometimes be a little harsh on the sensitive areas. I did a little poking around online and got some ideas on how to make your own wipes. So, I'm giving it a shot.

Lots of people suggested cutting up flannel receiving blankets and using those. Since I had a pack of 5 that I wasn't using, I figured they could be sacrificed to the cause of healing Adelyns red hiney. I cut them up in squares- probably 8x8 sizes but  I didn't bother measuring since they are simply butt wipes. I read that flannel blankets fray pretty bad so I did a simple zig-zag stitch around the outside of each wipe.

To use them, we just wet it down with a spray bottle, wipe the booty, and toss it in the hamper if we aren't using our cloth diapers. If we are using the Fuzzi Bunz, I just toss the rag in with the diaper and wash them all together. Since her poop isn't too gross yet, it really isn't a big deal nor is it very stinky.

Hopefully this will help out my little gal's tush!

Changing Table is Done

You've probably seen the changing table makeover a few times but I realized that I never made an official before and after post about it.

In case you forgot, I scored this dresser on Craig's List for $40.00. It started out like this...
Then looked like this...

Then started to look like this...
 And turned out like this!!

I lined the drawers with fun scrapbook paper. To see details on how I did it, visit this post.
I love love love the way it turned out.

Garage Sale Makeovers

Remember the load of things I came back with from my garage sales a few weeks ago? Let me remind you...
Looks like a bunch of junk, yes?
I shall prove you wrong.

See that little mirror on the left? The green one? The one for $2.00?
Here's a closer look:
I sanded it down to give the paint something to hold on to. I then painted it white.
Here's a picture of it in progress:
After it dried, I sanded it down again. Weird, I know. Don't worry- I had a plan. I wanted to give it some character and personality. Sandpaper will do just the trick!
I hunted around my house for a good place for it to call home. The mantle was calling its name.
Kinda weird to put a mirror on top of a mirror, but I like it.

Another little treasure I picked up for $0.25 was this guy:
The naive eye would see this as a piece of junk. Not so!
After a few coats of spray paint, I found a great use for it!
For twenty-five cents, I was VERY pleased with the way it turned out.
Just wanted to update you on my progress!

Pillow Case Potentials

I found this pillowcase at Goodwill a few weeks back. I had no idea what I wanted to do with it, but I really liked the fabric print and it was only $.50 so I thought, what the heck.

A few nights ago, I was feeling a little bold and wanted to conquer my sewing machine standoff so I attempted something easy. I made little tie-backs for our curtains! I had previously made some but I liked these better.

I also used some of the fabric to make a little headband. Elastic and all. Pretty cute, yes? I'm a fan of the headbands. You can probably tell by the pick, I've got curly, thick hair. Combine that with a little humidity and I've got a fro. Praise Jesus for headbands.

My Twelve Dollar Beauty

I found this little guy at a flea market a few weeks ago. $12.00-wahoo! I have been trying to figure out what the heck I wanted to do with it until I stumbled across this blog.
Finally- some inspiration!
Bless its heart.Step One:
Get-out-a-here doors. The inside of this guy has way too much potential for those doors to stay on.

Step Two:
Sand this puppy down. Thank you Gary Drover for the sander. You have saved my forearm muscles from soreness.

Step Three:
Spray paint. 2-3 coats. Wait and let dry. (Make sure to beat the rainstorm next time. No harm done though).

Step Four:
Sand again. I wanted the piece to have a lot of character so I sanded down the corners and edges. My husband made the comment, "That looks dirtier than it did before." Yep. That's the point.

Step Five:
Stain. Again, I wanted to make it have some character. So one technique I saw online was to wipe some stain on top of the paint, and then wipe it off with a clean rag, leaving some of the stain behind. I have never done this before so I was really hoping I wouldn't ruin my $12 beauty. Time would only tell. I put on a few coats of this as well. I stained the inside heavier than the outside to give it a little personality.

Step Six:
I put a layer of "Enamel" over the entire thing. This protects it as well as gives it a little shine.

Finally, my little $12 beauty is finished!

I have turned it into a storage unit for all of our picture albums and bigger books that don't fit in the bookshelves we have. Pretty cute, eh?
