"So What Do You Actually Do Now?"

It's funny how most people have lost track of what I actually do at The Crossing now. They know I'm around and they see my name around but most are a little unclear about what my job is. Even my own father kindly asked me the other day what my job was. I figured if he doesn't know, it'd be good to clarify.

About 6 months ago I gladly handed my job as the graphics manager off to another staff person. It was a good job for me when I was around the office but once I started to work from home it became more stressful to keep up with the last minute demands that the job required. I'm really glad I had that job though. It taught me a ton of techie stuff, forced me to learn design programs like Photoshop and InDesign, and gave me a bigger picture of how communications function at a large church. I left happily but was very thankful for the two years that I did this job.

Right now my main role is with the 20-somethings ministry overseeing the women's small groups. I co-lead a group of 15 girls but also oversee the two other women's groups. My job is to get women placed in small groups, make sure the leaders are equipped and feel supported as well as keeping an eye on the health of the groups (making sure they don't get too big or aren't losing people too fast). I also help out with socials for the 20-something's ministry. In fact we recently had a pig roast that around 80 people ended up coming to! I love the staff team that I am working with and am excited to continue in this ministry as it grows.

Another few random things I have my hand in at The Crossing:

I serve as the staff liason for a group called Koinonia. This is a group that has formed to meet the need for community for the people who are too old for 20-somethings but haven't quite found a place in other ministries. My role in this is pretty small as they seem to pretty much run themselves but I basically helped them to get tracks to run on and sent them on their way.

I still organize and lead the student ministry Jamaica mission trip. I organize the promotion of the trip, handle the sign ups, run the training meetings, and send them on their way! This job comes in waves. There are seasons that are super busy but other times where I don't log any hours in for weeks or months at a time.

Another random thing I do is oversee childcare at special events. This doesn't happen all that much because there are two other women who are much more experienced than I am but I feel comfortable doing the small events. This means I hire the babysitters, plan activities for each age group, check kids in, and handle any minor crisis that may arise.

An up-and-coming small job that I will be doing is to revamp the Crossing Kids Blog. I'm not a web designer by any means but have played around with this blog and Thriving Home enough to know some stuff. And Lord knows I have learned how to troubleshoot through tech problems! Hopefully this will be a fun job that I can use my new skills in.

I think that's all.

So, I can see why friends and family might be a bit confused as to what I do at The Crossing. I'm all over the place!

Will this last?

Probably not.

When Baby X comes along, I doubt... no, I KNOW I will not be able to keep all of these things going. I doubt I will have such a hard time in the first few months that I did with Adelyn but I am also aware that going from one kid to two is a game changer. I am praying and seeking God's will on where I should be serving in the church in the future. I'm going to have to learn to say no a lot better too.

But for now, I like the level of involvement I have. I like still feeling part of staff and being able to use my gifts to serve the church. I like having a commitment and presence outside the home. It's not only good for me spiritually to work and serve but I think it's important for our kids to see that too. Yes, it takes sacrifice and yes, it can be inconvenient, but it's worth it.

Anyway, that's what I currently do if you are wondering. :)
